The River Basin Management Society
was established in 1986 to:
"establish a balanced approach to land, water & natural
resource management on a catchment basis"
The Society advocates:
- Sustainable environmental management
- Development of holistic planning
- Integration of all management practices
- Co-ordination of all management activities
- Solutions to particular problems to be measured against their
effects on the rest of the catchment
It aims to achieve this by:
- Being open to all involved or interested in our aims
- Holding conferences on relevant topics
- Publishing a regular newsletter
- Assisting students undertaking research work at Post Graduate levels
- Assisting in information gathering & dissemination
- Being an independent body of opinion
What does the RBMS do?
The RBMS aims to broaden the knowledge and experience of its member and to foster a better understanding between the many individuals and groups interested in land, water and natural resource management.
By doing so the RBMS hopes that more informed and balanced decision making will bring sustainable environmental benefit to Australia.
The RBMS aims to keep members aware of what's going on in the field of land and water management by:
- Conducting regular seminars & conferences
- Encouraging regional field days & meetings
- Producing a newsletter several times per year
- Liaising with groups of similar interests
- Providing grants to assist research
- Gathering & disseminating information
The society is managed by a Committee who come up for election every year and who serve on an honorary basis.
Why should I join?
The RBMS encourages membership from anyone interested in natural resource management, whether it's through work, play or just general interest. The wider our membership becomes, the more we will learn from each other about better ways to manage our natural resources for present and future generations.
